Educational Services
The NHS Plan encourages a patient focused approach that promotes independence and demonstrates proper respect for individual autonomy, dignity and privacy. The proper education and training of clinical staff underpins the quality of care that can be delivered to patients.
Furthermore, the introduction of new devices is essential if intractable incontinence is to be addressed using the technological advancements of the 21st century. Development of new devices requires collaboration between researchers, industry, clinicians and users, but differing cultures and priorities among these groups can be a barrier to successful communication.
Through the combined infrastructure, networks, research activity and expertise of the Bristol Urological Institute and the BioMed Health Technology Co-operative, the BioMed Centre can access a wealth of knowledge and experience to underpin a first class education and training programme for health professionals, scientists and industry.
The BioMed Centre aims to support the training of all health professionals in catheter management to:
- achieve optimal care in the community to reduce the number of catheter associated complications.
- deliver a beacon service to patients referred for specialist attention.
- facilitate the rapid and successful implementation of clinically-proven new devices that address the problems of long-term catheterisation.
