Donations to the BioMed Centre
BioMed fundraising nearing the £10,000 mark!
Thanks to the efforts
of the Friends of BioMed, our fundraising is well underway. A number of
events held by the Friends have raised over £3000, and we have received
some very generous donations. A wine tasting event is planned for later
this year, so keep a look out for more details.
Two sporting challenges
are being attempted in April in aid of BioMed. Georgie Maw is running her
first marathon and Adele Long is undertaking her first expedition. If you

Why is fundraising so important - keep reading
The establishment of a clinical and scientific centre for people of all ages suffering
from loss of normal bladder control was perhaps the most ambitious objective
of the BioMed project. This has
been achieved as a consequence of remarkable generosity from major charities
and many benevolent individual contributors. The clinical rooms and laboratories
were built in 2003. The clinic opened the following year providing easy
access for people in wheelchairs and the adjacent microbiological and
analytical laboratories were commissioned in 2005.
The BioMed Centre, with purpose-built facilities introduces an unprecedented opportunity to advance this neglected subject in line with the outstanding technological progress many of the more glamorous medical areas. The launch of the Centre results from combined government and charitable support and the focus now concentrates on improving the management of older and disabled people suffering from intractable urinary incontinence, a topic fundamental to their care. The task is both difficult and challenging but for those with any experience of relatives or friends with this problem, so essential and worthwhile.
We continue to rely on charitable funding to support our infrastructure, underpin our research and to underake initiatives that highlight this topic empowering users with dignity.
Donations however large or small would be greatly appreciated. Cheques should be sent to Karen Evely at the address on the contacts page, and made payable to the BUI BioMed Fund or you can donate online by clicking the button below
Please help us to improve this aspect of care for older and disabled people.
